Patient Pap Test Status Service

This convenient and time-saving feature allows patient access to their Pap test status. This information is available online or through a dedicated toll-free telephone number. Physicians can instruct their patients to visit the Pee Dee Pathology Web site or call the toll-free number 7 days after their office visit to check on the status and/or result of their Pap tests. The Pap test results and/or status are available for 90 days from the date of service.

Labeling Protocol for Biopsy and Pap Specimen Containers

According to CAP (College of American Pathology) guidelines, all specimens received by a laboratory must have two patient identifiers on the specimen container. Along with the patient’s first and last name, either their date of birth, chart number or social security must be included on the specimen container. The patient information on the container must match the information on the requisition accompanying the specimen. Biopsy containers must include the specimen source, in addition, to the two patient identifiers.

ARE YOU ENROLLED IN PECOS?

WHAT: Enrollment in the Internet-based Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS) is required for all physicians, non-physician practitioners, and provider and supplier organizations. PECOS allows physicians, non-physician practitioners, and provider and supplier organizations the option of enrolling, making a change in their Medicare enrollment information, viewing Medicare enrollment information, or tracking the status of their Medicare enrollment applications throughout the Internet submission process. WHEN: Effective January 3, 2011 Medicare will discontinue paying claims for physicians if the both the physician and referring provider are not enrolled in PECOS. It is important to understand that enrollment in PECOS is a separate process from traditional Medicare enrollment. Although enrolled in Medicare, many physicians do not have a current enrollment record in PECOS.
